The Electrical Industry in India is making greater use of strip wound magnetic cores from cold rolled
grain oriented steel. These offer various advantages such as increased space factor, lower power loss and
magnetizing current, all of which result in lower costs to the manufactures.
In addition to the many and growing uses in the electrical industry, cold rolled grain oriented cores
have a vast potential in the electronics industry. They are of particular value where magnetic
properties are critical from the point of view of performance and when the space occupied by the core
has to be kept to a minimum. Due to adoption of most modern and specialized techniques

Transformer Applications:

Strips wound cores are manufactured by VSPL for application such as Auto Transformer, Instrument Transformers, Magnetic Amplifiers, Saturable and Low Loss Reactors.
- Strip wound cores are also used in control circuits of switchgear and in the production of welding equipment. The strip wound core will be of immense importance in electronics industry, a field where rapid technological advancements are the law of life.

Advantages of strips wound cores
The major advantages of using strips wound cores manufactured by VSPL are:
- Reduction in weight and size of the core-which leads to cost minimization.
- Improved performance betters regulation, higher efficiency and lower excitation.
- In magnetic cores manufactured from strips, air gaps at the corners are an inherent part of the construction. This results in higher magnetizing current. As strip wound cores are made from continuous strips, such gaps are eliminated and the maximum use is made of the directional properties of the CRGO material by providing the magnetic flux in the entire core with a path along the grain directions.
- Procedures for manufacturing electrical equipment can be simplified by the use of VSPL wound cores as the customer has at his disposal a complete magnetic core whose properties are guaranteed. Hence no checking and testing is required before use. This will help in reducing the inventories and also in overcoming problems of quality control.
